Basketball Skills Course Rules

 

The Course

Players will start in a designated. Players will start off with a defensive slide drill. Once the Players complete the defensive slide drill Players will take ball and dribble to free throw line where Players will shoot until they make one (1) free throw (4 – 6 grades will get 5 attempts – after that they will receive a ten (10) second penalty). Players will then have to make two (2) layups one from each side (4 – 6 grades will get 6 attempts – after that they will receive a six (6) second penalty). Upon completion, Players will enter the dribbling obstacle course with a basketball in their hand. Players will go through the dribbling obstacle – during the dribbling obstacle, Players will have to complete a straight pass and bounce pass. The Players will have up to five (5) attempts. If Players do not complete the pass they will receive a five (5) second penalty. After dribbling obstacle, Players will have to sprint from one end of the court to the other end and back to complete the course. Players total time will be recorded.

 

Shooting

Players will have one minute to shoot from different spots on the floor. Players will receive points for shots made at the various spots on the floor (shooting spots on the floor will have points associated with them). Players shooting score will be compiled.

 

Free Throws

Players will shoot free throws until they miss. Players will get at least two free throws (if they miss the first free-throw they will have the opportunity to shoot another free throw).

 

Dunks

The Open Division will have a dunk contest. Players will be evaluated on 3 successful dunks. The top dunkers will be selected for the dunk contest during the finals. Players competing in lowering divisions are eligible for the dunk contest but will have to pay an additional five ($5) dollars to participate.

If players want to better their score they can take up to three runs. Each run will cost an additional $10. During the finals no additional runs are allowed.

 

Officials

Officials in the skills challenge will be placed throughout the course to ensure that players going through the course complete each challenge.
